Matteo Biffoni, sindaco di Prato, invita la premier Giorgia Meloni a Prato, per visitare le scuole della realtà della città toscana.

L’invito con una lettera aperta di Biffoni dopo l’annuncio della premier di un provvedimento che introduce per legge il numero massimo di studenti stranieri per classe.

Biffoni alla premier Meloni: “Presidente, la invito a venire a vedere. E’ una proposta controproducente. Rischiamo di fare un danno. La proposta della presidente del Consiglio non solo è sbagliata, ma rischia di fare peggio dell’obiettivo che vuole ottenere. E soprattutto in alcune realtà come la nostra è inapplicabile se non smembrando le famiglie. Allora venga a Prato, non in campagna elettorale. Facciamo un giro insieme e sono sicuro che da donna esperta che conosce la realtà che amministra sarà in grado di cambiare idea e di rendersi conto che questa proposta è drammaticamente inapplicabile e inutile per territori che tutti i giorni devono dare risposte a queste famiglie e a questi bambini”.

“Gentile Presidente Meloni,

io la capisco: si avvicina la campagna elettorale e lei ha bisogno di motivare un pezzo del suo elettorato. La capisco, anche io ho percorso tanti chilometri su questa strada e conosco le regole del gioco. Ma non dimentichi mai che lei è la presidente del Consiglio e le sue parole hanno un peso specifico che si riverbera sull’intero territorio nazionale. Per questo ho letto con grande attenzione le sue recenti dichiarazioni in merito all’intenzione del Governo di introdurre per legge un tetto massimo di studenti stranieri per classe e mi sento in dovere di scriverle.

Da sindaco di una città come Prato — realtà dinamica, produttiva e straordinariamente complessa dal punto di vista demografico e sociale — avverto il dovere istituzionale di rivolgermi a lei per offrirle uno sguardo calato nella realtà concreta dei nostri territori.

A Prato la presenza di studenti non italiani supera di gran lunga la media nazionale dell’11,6% e, in diverse scuole dell’infanzia e primarie del nostro comune, il tetto del 30% è semplicemente inapplicabile. Rispettare un limite rigido imporrebbe due alternative parimenti insostenibili: negare il diritto allo studio a bambini residenti nel nostro comune o costringere famiglie ed educatori a complessi trasferimenti verso plessi distanti chilometri dalle proprie abitazioni, minando il principio fondamentale della scuola di prossimità”.

Prosegue Biffoni: “Se il Governo vuole veramente occuparsi di scuola e di integrazione deve impegnarsi a risolvere i veri problemi che affliggono la nostra comunità. A Prato l’indicatore di dispersione e ritardo scolastico si attesta intorno all’11%, posizionando la città tra quelle con i valori più alti a livello nazionale, con una stima di oltre 500 giovani che lasciano la scuola ogni anno senza completare il percorso o conseguire un titolo superiore. A questo si aggiunge il fenomeno specifico di circa 300 minorenni residenti che non risultano mai stati iscritti ad alcun istituto scolastico (di cui quasi il 75% di nazionalità cinese) e una carenza di competenze di base per cui quasi 1 studente su 2 conclude il ciclo delle scuole medie senza raggiungere competenze alfabetiche adeguate negli standard nazionali.

La scuola pubblica non ha bisogno di vincoli numerici ma di strumenti concreti e risorse che permettano di gestire l’integrazione con competenza e serenità. Compito del Governo è quello di fornire alle istituzioni scolastiche e agli enti locali gli strumenti ed i fondi per governare i processi di integrazione”.

Quindi il sindaco di Prato: “Per affrontare e superare con successo questa complessità abbiamo bisogno di risposte strutturali e risorse adeguate: significa quattrini veri, soldi veri da investire negli edifici scolastici e soprattutto nelle persone. In una realtà come quella di Prato servono insegnanti specializzati nell’insegnamento dell’italiano L2 per i ragazzi neo arrivati sostenuti da mediatori linguistico-culturali pronti a facilitare il percorso didattico. Servono figure come gli “educatori di corridoio” e progetti mirati per inserire facilitatori nelle classi, affinché si possa stabilire un canale di comunicazione costante e proficuo con le famiglie d’origine.

Creare frammentazione o, peggio ancora, esclusione, fa venire meno la missione civile ed educativa della scuola: formare i cittadini di domani. Crediamo che l’obiettivo di fondo per chi governa debba essere quello di accompagnare gli studenti (tutti, nessuno escluso) nel percorso di cittadinanza rendendoli parte attiva della comunità, perché è solo investendo sull’inclusione che si fa crescere l’intera società.

È un investimento strategico sul futuro del Paese di cui non ha bisogno soltanto Prato, ma l’intero sistema nazionale. Lo chieda ai miei colleghi di Brescia, Piacenza, Parma, Mantova, Modena. Trasformare l’aula scolastica in un luogo di vera integrazione non è una questione locale o di emergenza, ma la chiave per costruire un’Italia più forte, unita e consapevole.

– 11 September 2026 – Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA) has received two major national recognitions in 2026, highlighting the progress of Thailand’s cement industry in translating its Net Zero 2050 ambition into practical action through collaboration across government, industry, technology, finance and international partners.
 

TCMA received the Thai Climate Partnership: DCCE Climate Partner Award from the Department of Climate Change and Environment (DCCE), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, in recognition of its continued collaboration to advance climate action in Thailand. TCMA also received the Trade Prestige Award 2026 at the Excellent Level from the Department of Business Development (DBD), Ministry of Commerce, for the fourth consecutive year, recognizing its contribution to industry competitiveness and Thailand’s economic development.

A key framework guiding the industry’s transition is the Thailand 2050 Net Zero Cement and Concrete Roadmap, which brings together technology, innovation, standards, energy transition and economic mechanisms to reduce emissions across the cement and concrete value chain. 

One of the most significant areas of progress has been the broad adoption of hydraulic cement, a lower-carbon cement that has become mainstream in Thailand and is increasingly used across infrastructure, public buildings, industrial facilities and housing. The transition has contributed to cumulative greenhouse gas emissions reductions of more than 3.8 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent since 2019. In parallel, the industry is advancing energy transition and energy efficiency, including greater use of alternative fuels and renewable energy, together with efforts to improve energy performance across cement production. 

At the local level, the Saraburi Sandbox is providing a practical environment to connect policy, technology, investment and implementation, with the aim of testing solutions that can be replicated and scaled. 

International cooperation and financing are supporting the transition from ambition to implementation. TCMA has worked with international partners through the Decarbonization of Cement and Concrete Sectors in Thailand initiative, supported by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), UNIDO and the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA). The programme supports technology development, standards and certification, capacity building and practical pathways for low-carbon cement and concrete. It also includes the development and demonstration of innovative solutions, including a Mobile Carbon Capture Unit (MCCU) pilot, providing a platform to explore carbon capture technologies under real industrial conditions and build knowledge for future scale-up. 

At the regional level, TCMA is supporting the development of the 2035 AFCM Decarbonization Roadmap, helping cement producers across ASEAN move towards a common direction on decarbonization while strengthening regional cooperation and knowledge exchange. 

The transition to a low-carbon cement sector requires more than technology alone. It depends on an enabling ecosystem that brings together policy and regulatory frameworks, technology and innovation, finance and investment, standards and certification, and effective governance and implementation. These elements are increasingly important to strengthen industrial competitiveness and support Thailand’s transition towards a low-carbon economy. 

“The next stage is about moving from individual initiatives and pilots to wider implementation and scale. HEFEI, China, Sept. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Pylontech (688063:SH) starts mass production of its 588Ah and 601Ah Prismatic LFP Cells for ESS at its Hefei manufacturing base on September 21, marking a new step in the company’s expansion into utility-scale energy storage. 

Developed in-house, the 588Ah and 601Ah cells are designed for large-scale energy storage applications, offering high safety, long cycle life and high energy efficiency. More than 100MWh of the new cells have already been produced, demonstrating the company’s ability to manufacture the new products at scale. The cells are also being integrated into Pylontech’s next-generation PyOcean 6.25MWh and 8MWh energy storage systems, which are set to enter project delivery. 

The move comes as Pylontech continues to expand its presence in the utility-scale energy storage market. The company has supplied systems for a growing number of large-scale projects in China and overseas, including a 120MW/240MWh energy storage project in Yangzhou, Jiangsu, a 200MW/400MWh standalone BESS in Ningxia, as well as projects in Europe. These projects have expanded Pylontech’s experience in the delivery and deployment of large-scale energy storage systems. 

The new cells deliver improvements across key performance metrics, including capacity, energy density, cycle life and energy efficiency. The 601Ah cell achieves an energy density of 425.8Wh/L, a cycle life of more than 12,000 cycles and energy efficiency of 96.5%. Its higher capacity also reduces the number of cells and interconnections required within a storage system, enabling more compact system designs, more efficient integration and improved lifecycle economics. 

Production of the new cells is supported by Pylontech’s intelligent manufacturing capabilities at its Hefei base. Core production processes are 100% automated, supported by more than 120 industrial robots and 180 sets of intelligent manufacturing equipment. The company’s manufacturing execution system (MES) captures production and quality data throughout the manufacturing process, enabling 100% end-to-end traceability for every cell and supporting consistent quality control. 

With the 588Ah and 601Ah cells now in mass production, Pylontech will continue to advance its cell technology, manufacturing and system integration capabilities to support the growing demand for utility-scale energy storage worldwide.

Columbia University researchers identify key inflammatory processes affecting blood-brain barrier in study of post-streptococcal encephalitis
 

NEW YORK, Sept. 22, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — For far too long, children and families affected by PANS and PANDAS have waited for answers on what is happening in the brain during acute illness. Now, groundbreaking research from Columbia University Irving Medical Center, in collaboration with PANDAS Network and other patient advocacy groups, is shedding new light on these processes. , the study identifies key inflammatory processes involving the blood-brain barrier that may help explain the severe neurological and psychiatric symptoms associated with these disorders. 

Group A Streptococcus (GAS) infections are a major cause of morbidity in both children and adults worldwide. Primary infections like pharyngitis are common, but rarer secondary complications can affect the Central Nervous System and cause severe neuropsychiatric diseases, primarily in children. These complications include Sydenham’s Chorea (SC) and Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS), both of which are rheumatic fever sequelae, as well as Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS), an illness associated with other infectious triggers. 

A shadow of controversy has slowed progress in understanding these diseases. However, new research by a team of neuroscientists at Columbia University Irving Medical Center – Agalliu Lab, led by Dritan Agalliu, PhD, Professor of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University, illuminates key mechanisms linking the immune system to brain dysfunction using an animal model. These processes were previously unclear. 

The team went a step further and identified several upregulated blood markers in 23 acutely sick children that could potentially be used as disease biomarkers to identify and track disease progression. 

Using mouse genetic studies, single-cell RNA sequencing of brain cells combined with sophisticated computational analyses and functional studies in a mouse model for the disease, the team showed that GAS infections induce inflammatory gene changes primarily in microglia, the innate immune cells of the brain, and brain endothelial cells that form the blood-brain barrier, which seals the brain from the peripheral immune system. 

These inflammatory gene changes result in brain inflammation and loss of blood-brain barrier functions that result in severe symptomology such as acute OCD, movement disorders, neurological symptoms and other abrupt psychiatric changes. 

By eliminating several inflammatory molecules called cytokines made by T lymphocytes, including GM-CSF and IL17A, the authors showed that IL-17A is critical for both microglial and BBB gene changes leading to dysfunction. Moreover, the inflammatory cytokines produced by immune cells in the mouse model match those found in patients at the acute phase of the disease. 

These findings, reported in a paper published August 11, 2026, in Nature Communications, will help resolve an ongoing debate about SC, PANDAS and PANS. These disorders are characterized by sudden-onset of extreme mental health and neurological symptoms, including obsessive-compulsive symptoms, food-related fears that can cause the patient to stop eating, sensory problems, severe behavioral regression, relapsing choreiform movements and sleep-related issues. 

Many cases of SC, PANDAS and PANS occur after an acute infection, and the disorder is thought to result from an immune-system attack on the brain. Yet some clinicians attribute the symptoms to psychosocial factors while doubting the immune origin of these disorders. 

By providing a comprehensive analysis of gene changes in multiple brain cells after GAS infections and the analyses of human sera, this research consolidates the neuroinflammatory immune-mediated origin of these disorders. This research also offers promising pathways to identify potential disease biomarkers and develop future medications for these disorders. 

Dr. Dritan Agalliu states, “Our work on these disorders began almost 15 years ago by identifying that repeated intranasal infections with GAS induce T lymphocyte migration from the nasal cavity into the brain to trigger blood-brain barrier dysfunction and microglial activation and lead to loss of neuronal function (JCI paper 2016). We then demonstrated that Th17 lymphocytes that trigger autoimmune diseases including those in the brain are responsible for the brain pathology in a mouse model for these disorders (PNAS paper 2020).” 

“Our latest study published in Nature Communications provides a comprehensive resource of gene changes that occur in multiple brain cells after repeated GAS infections,” Dr. Agalliu explains. “It also identifies IL17A interacting with its receptors as a key cytokine triggering microglial and brain endothelial cell dysfunction.” 

Dr. Agalliu is sympathetic to these children. “These are very dramatic, severe and disruptive illnesses. Many families struggle to obtain appropriate care for these children. I am interested in this work because this area of medicine has been neglected for a long time, and our expertise in neuroinflammation and blood-brain barrier function could open doors to understanding where the problems start in these children and potentially identify cures.” 

Dr. Ugur Akcan, PhD, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Columbia University and co-lead author of the study, feels this work should be viewed with fresh eyes by doctors. “We have introduced a new idea in this study that IL17A interactions with its receptor in microglia, innate immune cells of the brain, are critical for blood-brain barrier dysfunction. Consistent with robust IL17RA expression in microglia and macrophages after GAS infections, genetic ablation of IL17RA in these cells partially rescues BBB leakage, indicating microglia mediate IL-17A effects on the vasculature. Future studies will identify downstream effectors of IL17A/IL17RA signaling in microglia and how they affect BBB function after GAS infections.” 

“Although nearly all children experience pharyngitis, only a small fraction go on to develop neuropsychiatric sequelae. Why some children are vulnerable while most are not remains unexplained, and my future work will focus on defining the genetic risk factors that underlie this susceptibility,” Dr. Akcan shares.

In uno studio sull’encefalite post-streptococcica, i ricercatori della Columbia University hanno identificato i processi infiammatori chiave che interessano la barriera emato-encefalica

Una recente ed innovativa ricerca del Columbia University Irving Medical Center, in collaborazione con PANDAS Network e altri gruppi per la difesa dei diritti dei pazienti, sta facendo nuova luce su questi processi. , identifica i processi infiammatori importanti che interessano la barriera emato-encefalica; processi che potrebbero contribuire a spiegare i gravi sintomi neurologici e psichiatrici associati a queste patologie. 

In tutto il mondo, le infezioni da streptococco di gruppo A (GAS) rappresentano una delle principali cause di morbidità sia nei bambini sia negli adulti. Le infezioni primarie come la faringite sono comuni, ma le complicanze secondarie, anche se più rare, possono colpire il sistema nervoso centrale e provocare gravi patologie neuropsichiatriche, soprattutto nei bambini. Queste complicanze comprendono la corea di Sydenham (CS) e i disturbi neuropsichiatrici autoimmuni pediatrici associati a infezioni streptococciche (PANDAS), entrambe sequele della febbre reumatica, così come la sindrome neuropsichiatrica pediatrica a esordio acuto (PANS), una patologia associata ad altri fattori scatenanti di natura infettiva. 

Le controversie che ruotano attorno a tali patologie ne hanno rallentato la loro comprensione. Tuttavia, una nuova ricerca condotta da un team di neuroscienziati del Columbia University Irving Medical Center (Agalliu Lab, diretto da Dritan Agalliu, PhD, professore di Patologia e Biologia Cellulare presso la Columbia University) ha fatto luce sui principali meccanismi che collegano il sistema immunitario alle alterazioni della funzionalità cerebrale ricorrendo a un modello animale. In precedenza, questi processi risultavano poco chiari. 

Il team ha fatto un ulteriore passo avanti, identificando diversi marcatori ematici sovraregolati in 23 bambini nella fase acuta della malattia. Tali marcatori potrebbero essere utilizzati come biomarcatori di malattia per identificare la patologia e monitorarne la progressione. 

Tramite l’impiego di studi genetici sui topi, il sequenziamento dell’RNA a singola cellula delle cellule cerebrali, combinato con sofisticate analisi computazionali e studi funzionali in un modello murino della malattia, il team ha potuto dimostrare che le infezioni da streptococco di gruppo A (GAS) inducono alterazioni dei geni associati all’infiammazione prevalentemente nella microglia, le cellule immunitarie innate del cervello, nonché nelle cellule endoteliali cerebrali che formano la barriera emato-encefalica, la quale separa il cervello dal sistema immunitario periferico. 

Queste alterazioni dei geni, associate all’infiammazione, provocano infiammazione cerebrale e perdita della funzionalità della barriera emato-encefalica, con conseguente comparsa di una sintomatologia grave, quale disturbo ossessivo-compulsivo (DOC) acuto, disturbi del movimento, sintomi neurologici e altre alterazioni psichiatriche a esordio improvviso. 

Attraverso l’eliminazione di diverse citochine infiammatorie prodotte dai linfociti T, tra cui GM-CSF e IL-17A, gli autori hanno dimostrato che IL-17A gioca un ruolo cruciale nelle alterazioni geniche della microglia e della barriera emato-encefalica, determinandone la disfunzione. Inoltre, le citochine infiammatorie prodotte dalle cellule immunitarie nel modello murino corrispondono a quelle rilevate nei pazienti in fase acuta di malattia.  

I risultati ottenuti, riportati in un articolo pubblicato su Nature Communications l’11 agosto 2026, contribuiranno a risolvere il dibattito in corso su CS, PANDAS e PANS. Le patologie in questione sono caratterizzate dall’esordio improvviso di sintomi neurologici estremi legati alla salute mentale: disturbo ossessivo-compulsivo, paure correlate al cibo che possono spingere il paziente a smettere di mangiare, problemi sensoriali, grave regressione comportamentale, movimenti coreiformi recidivanti e disturbi del sonno. 

Molti casi di CS, PANDAS e PANS si manifestano dopo un’infezione acuta e si ritiene che la patologia derivi da un attacco del sistema immunitario ai danni del cervello. Tuttavia, alcuni medici attribuiscono i sintomi a fattori psicosociali, mettendo in dubbio l’origine immunitaria di questi disturbi. 

Fornendo un’analisi completa delle alterazioni geniche in diversi tipi di cellule cerebrali a seguito di infezioni da GAS e analizzando campioni di siero umano, la ricerca rafforza le evidenze a sostegno dell’origine neuroinfiammatoria immunomediata di queste patologie. Peraltro, la ricerca in questione offre prospettive promettenti per tali patologie, in particolare per l’identificazione di potenziali biomarcatori e per lo sviluppo di futuri trattamenti farmacologici. 

Il Dottor Dritan Agalliu ha affermato: “Il nostro lavoro su queste patologie è iniziato quasi 15 anni fa, quando abbiamo scoperto che ripetute infezioni intranasali da GAS inducono la migrazione dei linfociti T dalla cavità nasale al cervello, causando una disfunzione della barriera emato-encefalica, e l’attivazione della microglia, determinando una perdita della funzione neuronale (articolo pubblicato sul Journal of Clinical Investigation nel 2016). Abbiamo poi dimostrato che i linfociti Th17, che inducono malattie autoimmuni, comprese quelle che interessano il cervello, sono responsabili della patologia cerebrale in un modello murino di queste malattie (articolo pubblicato su Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences nel 2020)”.

Il Dottor Ugur Akcan, PhD, ricercatore post-dottorato presso la Columbia University e co-autore principale dello studio, ritiene che i medici dovrebbero considerare questo lavoro con un nuovo approccio. “Con il nostro studio, abbiamo introdotto un nuovo concetto: le interazioni di IL-17A con il suo recettore nella microglia, costituita dalle cellule immunitarie innate del cervello, svolgono un ruolo cruciale nella disfunzione della barriera emato-encefalica”. In linea con la marcata espressione di IL17RA nella microglia e nei macrofagi in seguito all’infezione da GAS, la delezione genica di IL17RA in queste cellule riduce parzialmente l’aumento della permeabilità della barriera emato-encefalica, suggerendo che la microglia funga da mediatore per gli effetti di IL-17A sul sistema vascolare. “Studi futuri consentiranno di identificare gli effettori a valle della via di segnalazione IL-17A/IL17RA nella microglia e di chiarire in che modo influiscono sulla funzionalità della barriera emato-encefalica a seguito di infezioni da GAS”.

DEBRECEN, Hungary, Sept. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — CATL begins trial production on 22 September 2026 in its newly built cell factory in Debrecen as the company had fulfilled all preconditions required to commence trial run. The purpose of trial production is to set up, optimise and validate the production equipment and manufacturing processes ahead of the start of series production. CATL Debrecen continues cooperating and working closely with the government and the authorities in order to keep high standards on the environmental issues as well as the health and safety of its employees. 

CATL announced the construction of its second European battery plant in Debrecen in August 2022, with the aim of integrating to the European automotive and e-mobility supply chain and better serve leading European automakers. Construction of the first cell building started in summer 2023 and by spring 2026 the building had been equipped with the most advanced technology. After obtaining the occupancy permit in August 2026, the company obtained all relevant permits and completed all pre-conditions required by its IPPC permit prior to start trial operations from 22 September on the first two production lines of its cell manufacturing facility. 

Prior to issuing the occupancy permit, the Hajdú-Bihar County Government Office carried out regular on-site inspections at CATL’s facilities in order to follow up on previous issues creating serious worries in local inhabitants. Authority representatives confirmed that the company had resolved all deficiencies identified earlier in the permitting process. 

As a strategic manufacturing hub, CATL’s Debrecen plant will supply the most well-known, leading European automakers, which have already built significant electric vehicle production capacity in Hungary in recent years. As a global technology leader CATL implemented the most advanced, flexible production lines in Debrecen in order to fulfil the needs of its valued clients at all times. The positive opinion follows the review of the marketing authorization application submitted by Biocon Biologics Ireland Limited (formerly Biosimilar Collaborations Ireland Limited), an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Biocon Biologics Limited.

Pebrilzo® is a biosimilar medicinal product and the active substance is Pertuzumab, a monoclonal antibody that binds with high affinity and specificity to the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), inhibiting the proliferation of tumour cells that overexpress HER2.
