Da sabato 19 settembre a domenica 13 dicembre 2026, la 18a Biennale d’arte contemporanea di Lione invita il pubblico a scoprire una nuova mappa artistica di Lione e della sua area metropolitana. 

Intitolata “Passer d’un rêve à l’autre / Passare da un sogno all’altro”, questa 18a edizione è sotto la direzione artistica di Isabelle Bertolotti e curata da Catherine Nichols. 

Ispirata ai traboules di Lione, passaggi che attraversano cortili ed edifici collegando uno spazio all’altro, la Biennale esplora i modi in cui possiamo passare da una modalità di percezione ad un’altra e, forse, da un sogno collettivo ad un altro. 

Attingendo alla storia di Lione come città di commercio, produzione, circolazione e scambio, questa edizione esamina le economie che organizzano la nostra vita: i modi in cui gli esseri umani e più che umani acquisiscono, trasformano, condividono e fanno circolare le risorse materiali e immateriali che consentono loro di vivere. 

11 LUOGHI PER CONOSCERE LA CITTÀ IN MODO DIFFERENTE 

Con 120 artisti e 11 sedi espositive, la Biennale di quest’anno si estende ben oltre il tradizionale itinerario museale. Le istituzioni culturali, i siti di interesse storico-culturale, gli ex spazi industriali, gli spazi pubblici e i luoghi di transito costituiscono una geografia da scoprire in tutta la città e nell’area metropolitana: 

Tre luoghi costituiscono i principali punti di riferimento di questa edizione: Les Grandes Locos, macLYON e il Musée des Tissus et des Arts décoratifs. 

A Les Grandes Locos, le dimensioni industriali del sito richiamano tematiche legate alla produzione, alla trasformazione, all’estrazione e alla circolazione. A macLYON, la mostra esplora più da vicino le condizioni di esistenza, vita e morte, eredità e debito. Al Musée des Tissus, le opere esaminano forme di relazione, cura e scambio. 

Intorno a questi tre principali centri, la Biennale si diffonde in tutta la città, abitando le istituzioni artistiche, i siti di interesse storico-culturale e gli spazi quotidiani.

LONDON, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — On 15 September this year, the 46th World Chess Olympiad will start at the Silk Road international tourism centre in Samarkand. In the history of the prestigious competition, held since 1927, Central Asia will host the chess world’s largest team tournament for the first time. 

A total of 398 teams will compete: 208 in the men’s (Open) section and 190 in the women’s section. This will break the record of 380 teams set in Budapest in 2024. The competition will consist of 11 rounds and run until 27 September. 

From 10 to 18 September, Samarkand will also host the 3rd Chess Paralympiad. 41 teams will take part — the highest figure in its history. 

Held in historic Samarkand, a city on the UNESCO World Heritage List and one of the key crossroads of the Great Silk Road, the competition combines sport with a platform for cultural diplomacy and international dialogue. 

According to the teams’ average rating, the United States is seeded first in the men’s (Open) section. Reigning champion India is seeded second, and Uzbekistan third. 

The Uzbekistan line-ups reflect the emergence of a new generation of Uzbek chess. In particular, Nilufarkhon Imomkuziyeva and Khumoyun Begmurodov, both aged 16, will make their Olympiad debut. 

In the Uzbekistan men’s team, Javokhir Sindarov (4th), Nodirbek Abdusattorov (7th), Nodirbek Yakubboev (39th) and Shamsiddin Vokhidov (61st) are among the world’s 100 strongest players. That Sindarov and Abdusattorov are among the world’s ten strongest clearly demonstrates the competitiveness of the Uzbek chess school. 

Compared with 2025, the Uzbekistan men’s team has risen 15 places in the FIDE ranking among 204 countries to sixth. The women’s team has risen 17 places to 21st. 

Alongside the Olympiad, the 97th FIDE Congress will take place in Samarkand from 19 to 28 September. It will also include the FIDE presidential election. 

The Olympiad will be another important stage for Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Sindarov. Eight weeks after the Olympiad ends, he will face reigning world champion Gukesh Dommaraju for the world chess crown. Both will be 20 at the start of the match, scheduled for Geneva from 22 November to 13 December. 

Hosting the 46th World Chess Olympiad, the 3rd Chess Paralympiad and the FIDE Congress simultaneously demonstrates Uzbekistan’s capacity to organise major international sporting and intellectual events at a high level.

The report makes the case that direct current (DC) technology is moving from the periphery to the center of industrial, commercial, and digital infrastructure – and that the decisions made by business leaders and policymakers in the next two to three years will determine who shapes that transition and who inherits it. 

The future of power distribution is not an either-or choice between alternating current (AC) and direct current, but a hybrid system that combines the strengths of both technologies. While AC will remain the backbone of most transmission and regional distribution networks, DC is expected to play an increasingly important role within facilities where many major energy sources and loads already operate natively on direct current. The fastest-growing technologies, including solar photovoltaic systems, batteries, electric vehicles, AI data centers and many industrial automation systems, are inherently DC-based. As these technologies scale, reducing the number of power conversion steps between generation, storage and consumption can improve efficiency, increase the usable capacity of an existing grid connection and simplify integration. 

The report identifies AI data centers as one of the most immediate drivers of DC adoption. As AI workloads continue to increase power density requirements, conventional electrical architectures are reaching practical limits. The report finds that 800 VDC distribution is emerging as the defining architecture for next-generation AI infrastructure, enabling operators to maximize compute capacity within constrained grid connections while improving energy efficiency. 

At the same time, the shift is also relevant for a range of other key industries with the research highlighting several opportunities beyond data centers. Automation-intensive manufacturing facilities, commercial buildings and, over the longer term, buildings can also benefit from DC systems or subsystems through lower conversion losses, more effective integration of onsite renewables and storage, and enhanced operational flexibility.

This achievement marks a step in the company’s expansion into the 8-inch SiC foundry market, with volume production targeted for 2027. Building on the completion of this qualification, DB HiTek plans to strengthen product development support for customers, secure new customers and accelerate preparations for volume production in 2027. 

Silicon carbide (SiC) is a next-generation power semiconductor material that offers superior performance to conventional silicon (Si) in high-temperature and high-voltage environments, making it well suited for electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy systems and industrial power equipment. While 6-inch wafers currently dominate the SiC market, major global semiconductor manufacturers are transitioning to 8-inch wafers to improve production efficiency and cost competitiveness. DB HiTek has responded to this market transition by developing 8-inch SiC process technology and building its foundry service capabilities. 

Through optimization of its high-power SiC MOSFET process, DB HiTek has achieved competitive electrical characteristics and a high level of reliability. The company has established the world’s first complete 1,200 V 8-inch SiC foundry process flow, creating a foundry service platform capable of supporting customers across design, manufacturing, electrical characterization and reliability qualification. 

To support the commercial rollout of its 8-inch SiC foundry business, DB HiTek is providing customers with Process Design Kits (PDKs) for its proprietary first-and second-generation 1,200 V SiC MOSFET processes. A third-generation PDK is scheduled for release this November. By using these PDKs, customers can reduce the resources required during the initial stages of development, accelerate prototype fabrication and shorten product development time by more than a year. 

The second-generation process covered by the PDK achieves a specific on-resistance (Rsp) of 2.5 mΩ•cm² or less and a threshold voltage (Vth) of 3 V or higher at an on-state gate voltage (Vgs(on)) of 18 V. It has also completed reliability qualification, a demanding stage of process development. 

The third-generation process, scheduled for release in November, is being qualified with the goal of achieving a specific on-resistance of 2.3 mΩ•cm² or less at the same on-state gate voltage of 18 V, together with a short-circuit withstand time (SCWT) of at least 2.5 μs in the short-circuit safe operating area (SCSOA). Once qualification is complete, DB HiTek plans to make the third-generation PDK available to customers. 

DB HiTek plans to complete process preparations and provide access to longstanding customers in the third quarter of this year. The company plans to make the service available to all customers beginning in the second quarter of 2027.

LONDON and SAN SEBASTIÁN, Spain, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — EpilepsyGTx, a biotechnology company developing gene therapies for refractory epilepsy, and Viralgen, a leading contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) specialising in recombinant adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapies, today announced a partnership to support production of EpilepsyGTx’s lead investigational gene therapy programme targeting patients with focal refractory epilepsy (FRE), EPY201, ahead of first-in-human clinical trials. 

As part of the collaboration, Viralgen will use its proprietary Aava™ manufacturing platform to provide a reliable, efficient solution for production of EPY201. The platform enables high-yield, scalable manufacturing across AAV serotypes, and has already supported the production of 1,500 AAV batches. 

Focal epilepsy describes a group of disorders in which seizures arise from a specific part of the brain. When seizures persist following trials of at least two tolerated and appropriately chosen antiseizure medications, epilepsy is deemed refractory, or pharmacoresistant. FRE affects approximately 10 million patients worldwide1, including two million patients in the US, UK, and EU. 

EPY201 is designed to be delivered directly into the seizure focus, with the aim of reducing neuronal hyperexcitability locally while limiting exposure beyond the target region in the brain. If successful, this approach will offer patients a single, minimally invasive option that does not require resection or ablation of brain tissue, offering patients with FRE the prospect of seizure freedom.

SINGAPORE, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Alliance to End Plastic Waste today released its 2025 Progress Report, Strategy in Action, marking its first year of putting Strategy 2030 into practice and highlighting early progress towards addressing systems barriers to circularity and accelerating the transition to a circular economy for plastics.  

In 2025, the Alliance reduced 138,162 tonnes of unmanaged plastic waste and valorised 165,317 tonnes, bringing cumulative totals since inception to 378,147 tonnes reduced and 418,529 tonnes valorised. Beyond tonnage, the Alliance has catalysed US$641 million in funding commitments from third parties and impact investors since 2019. Its education and behaviour-change initiatives have reached over 1.5 million people since inception. In 2025, it engaged 559 organisations to finance, develop, and implement its projects. 

Under Strategy 2030, the Alliance is transitioning from smaller, standalone projects to larger-scale integrated Country and Thematic Programs, focusing its efforts where they can have the greatest impact: helping countries move up the recycling maturity curve and tackling complex, cross-market challenges such as flexible plastics. In 2025, the Alliance deepened partnerships across a range of stakeholders to scale impact, co-fund initiatives, and demonstrate solutions for plastics circularity that can be scaled and replicated.

Country Programs: building waste management systems where they are needed most 

The Alliance’s Country Programs help countries strengthen their recycling systems by improving collection, sorting, and recycling, while strengthening demand for recycled materials. Programs are currently established in Brazil, GCC (Saudi Arabia), India, Indonesia, and South Africa.  

In Indonesia, the Alliance is driving system-level change by scaling solutions through coordinated interventions across the waste management system, under the Government of Indonesia and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)’s Solid Waste Management for Sustainable Urban Development (SWM-SUD) project. In 2025, the Alliance launched an integrated waste management pilot in Malang Regency, East Java, bringing together source segregation, improved collection and sorting, and stronger links with local recyclers. The Alliance has committed up to US$40 million to apply principles from the Malang pilot across multiple SWM-SUD cities and regencies, helping scale integrated waste management systems and advance plastics circularity across Indonesia. 

In India, an Alliance-financed municipal waste processing facility was established in partnership with municipal authorities in Mathura-Vrindavan. The facility is now running at 75% capacity and is expected to process up to 300 tonnes of waste a day and divert 80% of the city’s waste from landfill. 

Thematic Program focused on a market-driven approach to flexible plastics 

The Alliance’s Thematic Programs tackle cross-market barriers to circularity, beginning with flexible plastics, which are among the most widely used yet hardest-to-recycle materials. 

In 2025, the Alliance advanced projects in Europe and North America under its Flexibles Program, applying a market-driven strategy that starts with end-market needs to ensure that solutions are built around viable markets. This means aligning the waste management system with end-market requirements, from collection and sorting through to recycling. 

In Phoenix, Arizona, the Alliance is putting this approach into practice through a new collection model for flexible plastics from commercial and industrial sites. Working with RME Defeats Waste, the project brings on-site baling and on-demand collection to smaller generators, including manufacturers and hospitals, that generate too little material to make traditional collection economically viable, creating a practical pathway to recycling where one did not previously exist. 

The Alliance has also commissioned a study of the U.S. flexible plastics system to map supply and demand and quantify end-market opportunities for recycled flexible plastics. 

Catalysing capital to accelerate systems change 

Mobilising capital remains one of the biggest barriers to building a circular economy for plastics at scale. Over the last year, the Alliance continued to expand its role as a catalyst for circular plastics investment, using its capital and expertise to de-risk projects, strengthen investment pipelines, and unlock wider pools of financing from public, private, and philanthropic partners. 

The Plastic Circularity Strategy, managed by Lombard Odier Investment Managers (LOIM), which the Alliance helped establish through seed funding and technical advice, reached its final close in summer 2026 and is continuing to deploy growth equity capital into companies developing solutions that advance plastic circularity. These include Spain’s Fych Technologies, whose patented process recycles complex multilayer plastics, and Switzerland’s Bloom Biorenewables, which converts non-edible biomass into bio-based chemicals and materials.

ROMA, 8 settembre 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Geotab, leader globale nelle soluzioni per i veicoli connessi e la gestione degli asset, presenta i nuovi risultati del suo indice di efficienza del trasporto merci urbano in Europa: i mezzi pesanti hanno superato le auto in termini di efficienza stradale in cinque delle sette capitali europee analizzate. 

L’Indice assegna, per ogni città, un punteggio da 0 a 100 alle prestazioni dei mezzi pesanti e delle autovetture, considerando la scorrevolezza del traffico e la quantità di carburante sprecata nella sosta a motore acceso. Un punteggio più elevato riflette un contesto operativo più efficiente. I risultati si basano su dati provenienti dai veicoli connessi, raccolti durante tutto il 2025 in sette capitali europee. Nei casi in cui i mezzi pesanti hanno ottenuto valutazioni superiori a quelle delle auto, i dati suggeriscono che questo possa riflettere, almeno in parte, il fatto che i viaggi vengono pianificati nelle ore meno congestionate, con una gestione ottimizzata dei percorsi che riduce l’esposizione alle condizioni di traffico più critiche. 

Nelle sette città analizzate, il divario tra mezzi pesanti e autovetture varia dai +26 punti di Roma ai -6 di Madrid. Roma e Berlino sono le città in cui si registra il vantaggio più marcato, grazie a finestre di accesso dedicate al trasporto merci e a reti stradali distribuite, che possono essere sfruttate efficacemente dalle attività professionali. Parigi si colloca in una posizione intermedia, piuttosto paradossale: pur registrando il più alto tasso di inattività rilevato nello studio, i mezzi pesanti ottengono prestazioni migliori rispetto alle auto, dal momento che queste sono soggette a condizioni di traffico ancora più penalizzanti. 

Solo Londra e Madrid si discostano da questa tendenza, sebbene per ragioni diverse. I risultati della capitale britannica potrebbero riflettere un contesto normativo che penalizza in modo particolare i mezzi pesanti: restrizioni che non permettono ai veicoli commerciali di utilizzare le corsie riservate agli autobus, norme sulle operazioni di carico e scarico che concentrano le consegne nelle fasce orarie di per sé più congestionate e restrizioni per le zone a basse emissioni, con costi di conformità che gravano in misura maggiore sulle flotte commerciali più datate. La sfida di Madrid è invece di natura più strutturale. Il punteggio assegnato ai mezzi pesanti è pari a 8, il più basso dell’intero dataset, a indicare che la rete stradale offre margini estremamente ridotti per operare in condizioni di traffico gestibili, indipendentemente dall’orario. 

Roma: la città con il vantaggio maggiore 

Tra le capitali analizzate, la città eterna registra il divario più ampio tra l’efficienza dei mezzi pesanti e quella delle autovetture: 63 contro 37. I dati suggeriscono che i veicoli per il trasporto merci possono beneficiare di finestre orarie dedicate e di aree soggette a restrizioni per le auto, con una pianificazione professionale dei percorsi che li aiuterebbe a evitare i punti di congestione più critici. I mezzi pesanti che circolano a Roma sono inoltre i più efficienti in termini di consumo di carburante tra tutte le città analizzate, con una media di 29,52 litri per 100 km e solo il 2,8% del carburante totale consumato durante le soste a motore acceso, il valore più basso dell’intero dataset. 

Il caso Madrid: nessuna finestra utile, nessuna prevedibilità 

La situazione della capitale spagnola è diametralmente opposta a quella di Roma: è infatti la città in cui le auto superano con maggior slancio i mezzi pesanti in termini di prestazioni, con un divario di 6 punti a favore delle auto (28 contro 22). Entrambi i punteggi sono bassi: Madrid si colloca in fondo all’indice complessivo di efficienza e il punteggio relativo alle performance dei veicoli per il trasporto merci, pari a 8, rappresenta il valore più basso registrato nell’intero studio. A quasi tutte le ore del giorno, i mezzi pesanti operano in condizioni di congestione superiori alla soglia critica: il punteggio di variabilità dei tempi di percorrenza è di 33, meno della metà di quello della città che registra il secondo valore più basso. Questo implica che gli operatori devono fare i conti non solo con una congestione costante, ma anche con condizioni di traffico realmente imprevedibili. Nessuna finestra di sollievo e mancanza di dati affidabili sui tempi di percorrenza: questa combinazione rende Madrid la città più complessa per i mezzi pesanti tra le sette capitali analizzate. 

L’effetto di una gestione professionale delle flotte 

Le città in cui il vantaggio dei veicoli per il trasporto merci viene meno sono quelle in cui le condizioni strutturali imposte sono talmente sfavorevoli che la sola gestione professionale non riesce a compensare. Per gli operatori delle flotte, i dati evidenziano sia i contesti in cui il vantaggio professionale è maggiormente marcato, sia quelli in cui la sfida riguarda più le infrastrutture che le attività operative, oltre ai casi in cui la necessità di un cambiamento normativo è supportata da evidenze oggettive. 

“L’idea che i mezzi pesanti siano sempre la principale causa dell’inefficienza della viabilità urbana non trova conferma in questi dati”, ha dichiarato Franco Viganò, Associate Vice President EMEA di Geotab. “Nella maggior parte delle città europee, le flotte commerciali ottengono risultati nettamente superiori rispetto al traffico delle auto, grazie a percorsi pianificati in modo strutturato, una programmazione migliore e decisioni basate sui dati, a cui i conducenti di mezzi privati semplicemente non hanno accesso. Per gli operatori delle flotte di ogni città, il messaggio è lo stesso: più chiaro è il quadro della distribuzione dei costi, maggiori sono le possibilità di intervenire concretamente”.

*Nota metodologica 

L’indice di efficienza del trasporto merci urbano in Europa assegna a ciascuna città un punteggio da 0 a 100, basato su due dimensioni valutate separatamente per le auto e per i veicoli commerciali, poi combinate con una ponderazione 60/40 (auto/veicoli commerciali) per riflettere il fatto che la maggior parte della domanda stradale proviene dai veicoli per il trasporto di passeggeri, mentre la componente relativa ai veicoli commerciali cattura in modo specifico l’efficienza logistica. 

La prima dimensione, che guarda al flusso del traffico, rappresenta il 75% del punteggio di ciascun veicolo e misura tre elementi: il carico di congestione (congestione cumulata nell’arco della giornata, 50% del punteggio), le finestre non congestionate (ore al giorno di traffico scorrevole, 25% del punteggio) e la variabilità del tempo di viaggio (prevedibilità dei tempi di viaggio, 25% del punteggio). 

La seconda dimensione, che prende in considerazione i costi del traffico, copre il restante 25% e misura le soste a motore acceso del veicolo durante il percorso come indicatore dello spreco generato dal sistema. Tempi di fermo più elevati indicano maggiore congestione, sincronizzazione dei semafori inadeguata e colli di bottiglia. 

Tutti i punteggi si basano sui dati dell’intero 2025 (gennaio–dicembre) provenienti dalla piattaforma di veicoli connessi di Geotab in sette città: Berlino, Amsterdam, Dublino, Roma, Parigi, Londra e Madrid.
